We spent 3 nights and 2 days on Mount Desert Island in Maine. The first night we arrived to our rental with a tornado warning! The storm quickly passed and we enjoyed a delicious seafood dinner on Bass Harbor at Seafood Katch. The following day we were up bright and early since the sun rises sooooo early in Maine! We checked out the Mount Desert Lighthouse which was right down the road from our rental. We then headed into Bar Harbor to go whale watching. Unfortunately, on our way into town we received a call that it was too rough out at sea and they had to cancel our trip. We took the Bar Harbor cruise instead and explored the sand bar and all that Bar Harbor has to offer. We also all tried lobster for the first time. Blake enjoyed playing with it more than eating it! The second day was spent exploring Acadia National Park and driving up Cadillac Mountain which is the highest point on the East coast! Day 6 of our New England adventure had us leaving Maine and driving to Salem, Massachusetts. Salem was a bit of a disappointment for us. We viewed the Salem Witch trial memorial and ate a delicious lunch at Rockafellas, but the Salem visitor center and the Salem Maritime National Historic site were both closed, on a Tuesday! After lunch in Salem we headed into Boston. We spent two nights in Boston at the beautiful Omni Parker House. Exploring the city and sightseeing along the Freedom Trail was such a cool experience. We decided to do a hop-on-hop off trolley on the second day. I highly recommend this as there is so much history to see all across Boston. On the 8th day of our adventure we drove to Plymouth, Massachusetts. We saw the Plymouth Rock, toured the replica of the Mayflower, and explored Plymouth Patuxet Museum. We then drove to Narragansett, Rhode Island for two nights to stay at The Aqua Blue Hotel. The kids enjoyed the cute town and how close we were to the ocean. We spent the last day of our vacation on Block Island. This was one of my favorite things we did on this trip. We took a ferry 12 miles out into the Atlantic to Block Island for the day. The downtown area reminded me of Mackinac Island. We hiked out to Moghegan Bluffs and checked out the South East Lighthouse. We took a taxi back into town to eat lunch at Rebecca's and then walked to the beach to let the kids swim. By the time we took the ferry back to Narragansett we were all exhausted. We grabbed dinner both nights from The Bike Stop Cafe, which we all agreed was the best food we had on the entire trip! We woke up and drove 13 hours home. We were completely exhausted from this trip, but we made some wonderful memories!
